Exploring Felting - from raw fiber to finished felt

Exploring Felting is a hands-on workshop to introduce you to the fabulous and ancient craft of felting. You will learn about wool types, washing, carding and preparation of wool for the felting process. There will be a discussion and handouts on equipment, methods, and techniques necessary to create a useable piece of felt. Each participant will leave the class with a flat, felted piece produced by their own hands with the traditional wet, rub and roll method.  You will see advanced techniques and embellishment of felt items demonstrated and there will be plenty of items to see to show you the possibilities once you enter the world of felt.

Needle Felt Sculptures

The workshop is an introduction to felting needles as a three-dimensional sculpting tool. You will learn how to transform carded batts of wool and various bits of color and curl into a fanciful sculpture. You will receive step by step instruction, helpful hints and some hard-learned secrets about the use of felting needles. At the end of the session you will have a unique, felt friend and the skills to create many more.  Needle felting is an extremely forgiving process and the simplicity of the tool is amazing.

The Art of Needle Felting

This workshop is an introduction to felting needles as an embellishment and fiber painting tool. You will learn how to create artistic layers on a background of pre-felted fabric. The process can be applied to felted, knitted or woven backgrounds enabling you to transform any project into a unique piece of art. The approach with this workshop is similar to an art class - it will open doors to your creative side!

Kelly Riley is available for workshops and presentations for private groups, fiber guilds, textile classes, fiber events and fairs. Please contact her for information. 541 256-0124  kelly@coyoterim.com
